20 WEEKS & 2 DAYS
I was in the shower this morning and I looked down at my leg and noticed what looked like a very big and very nasty bruise. I didn’t remember hurting myself so I took a closer look and it was actually the worst bunch of varicose veins I’d ever seen. And it was on my leg! I’ve had the odd one before but nothing like this.
Apparently it’s quite common and many women develop varicose veins during pregnancy.
IN FACT, IT HAS BEEN ESTIMATED THAT AS MANY
AS 40% OF ALL PREGNANT WOMEN
SUFFER FROM VARICOSE VEINS.
(OF COURSE I HAVE TO BE IN THAT 40%)
CONCENTRATE – HERE COMES THE SCIENCE BIT...
As your uterus grows, it puts pressure on the large vein on the right side of your body (the inferior vena cava, for the swots among you), which in turn increases pressure in the leg veins. Veins are the blood vessels that return blood from your extremities to your heart, so the blood in your leg veins is already working against gravity.
WHEN YOU’RE PREGNANT, THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD
IN YOUR BODY INCREASES BY UP TO 30%,
ADDING TO THE BURDEN ON YOUR VEINS.

Varicose veins are a kind of deterrence to the look of the skin. But it is easily curable nowadays. Thanks for sharing good information here. Keep posting.
